My neighbor from up the street came by yesterday, said that he had heard I was looking for prairie dogs, and gave me this photo. He said that they are in his yard and doing fine. I'm a little dubious. I didn't think anyone around here had such a large back yard.
The picture's not great, but they look like prairie dogs who have established a nice little village and would not be interested in either returning to my office or evolving into a different species. Nature can be painfully uncooperative. After they made good their escape by gnawing through my office floor, I kept their hole plugged up with hay. I should seal the hole up, but the hay gives the office such a nice outdoorsy smell I may keep it as it is.
